Geologic Event Update
Paseo Del Mar remains closed (looking East)
Looking West
The cracking extends from the cliff...
... all the way across the street ...
... and into the White Point Nature Preserve
This event is drawing International media attention.
The sewer line that runs under the street is being closed as a precaution.
The hole is filled with gravel...
... then capped with asphalt.
Do you think anybody would mind if I helped myself to a souvenir?
(I tried. They are too heavy)
Do you know why manholes are round?

This May Be Worse Than We Sink
By now everybody probably knows about the Paseo Del Mar road closure due to some kind of geologic failure. Is it a sinkhole or a slippage of the cliff? These pictures were taken the day before the road closure.
Here is an overview of the affected area looking West.
A closer look.
Surveyer markers track land movement, looking East
The view from the sidewalk. Doesn't look too bad...but...
The crack continues...
...and appears to extend all the way to the cliff

Both Ends of the Spectrum
While cleaning out my Parents garage the past couple of months, I came across several bundles of letters and photographs, some going back as far as the 1800's. I am scanning everything that I can in order to preserve a digital copy and to try to match up names with faces. This is going to take a while, but in the meantime, I want to share a card and photograph with you.
The following card has several autographs, most of persons I do not know yet. However, there is one of a very well known author. Click on it and see of you can spot it.
(HINT: It appears twice)
This photograph is probably from the 1930's. Today, of course, this kind of driving would never be allowed....no seat belt.
